From June 11th to 12th, the International Seminar on Material Micro-Analysis and Characterization was successfully held in SUST. The seminar was hosted by the Institute of Materials and Molecular Sciences of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Shaanxi University New Think Tank and Japan Electronics Co., Ltd. The conference invited nearly 100 famous experts and scholars from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Taiyuan University of Technology, and Japan Electronics Co., Ltd. Professor HUANG Jianfeng, the vice president of our university, attended the opening ceremony and delivered the speech. The opening ceremony of the seminar was presided over by Prof. YIN Hairong, the executive vice president of the Frontier Institute.

HUANG Jianfeng first expressed his gratitude to all the experts and colleagues who came to our school to participate in this meeting during the busy schedule, and expressed their gratitude to the experts and friends from all walks of life who have long been concerned about supporting the development of the university. He said that SUST focuses on the construction of “first-class universities and first-class disciplines”, aiming at the major national strategies, local economic and social development, and the transformation and upgrading of the light industry. It is constantly deepening comprehensive reforms and actively promoting connotation development while inheriting the characteristics of traditional light industry. Focusing on the transformation of old light industry to new light industry, new materials have played a huge role in this process. In January 2017, the material science discipline entered the top 1% of ESI's global rankings and entered the ranks of world-class disciplines. The material science discipline is the traditional superiority discipline of our school. It is researched on high-performance ceramic glass materials, inorganic non-metal materials, and Nano energy materials. The field has formed distinctive features and achieved many innovations. Last year, our school successfully purchased a double spherical aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope, which is not only a new achievement in the construction of our university's scientific research platform, but also a new brand for our school to better serve the country and Shaanxi's economic and social development. The platform is of great significance to the development of scientific research in schools. Through in-depth exchanges and discussions, scholars will gain a deeper understanding of the research of ultra-microstructure of materials and vigorously promote the rapid development of electron microscopy theory and its application technology. He hopes that all experts and scholars will give valuable opinions and suggestions to the development and construction of the material discipline of our school. We sincerely welcome all experts and scholars to exchange and cooperate with our school to carry out strategic, forward-looking, overall and cutting-edge research work.

This seminar has 12 special reports, with the theme of “Material Micro-regional Characterization Analysis”, covering the latest spherical aberration correction TEM technology, cryo-electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron probe and Auger probe, sample preparation, etc.

After the meeting, the application scientist of the Japan Electronics Co., Ltd., Miao Wei, used the spherical aberration correction transmission electron microscope of the Modern Instrument Analysis Center of our school to conduct on-site training and operation demonstration exchanges for the participating scholars.
