Introduction to Natural Index:
The Nature Index was first released in November 2014, tracking the author information of scientific papers published in high-quality natural science journals. Since June 2018, the number of journals included in the index has increased from 68 to 82.
The Natural Index uses two methods to calculate the output of papers:
•Article count (AC)-Regardless the number of authors in one article, each author's country or institution will get 1 AC score.
•Fractional count (FC)-FC takes into account the relative contribution of each author. The total FC score of an article is at most 1. In the case that every author has the same contribution, all authors share the score. For example, if a paper has ten authors, the FC score for each author is 0.1.
